GBP £650 Chinese Han Dynasty Painted Pottery Cocoon Jar
This pottery "cocoon" jar was made over 2,000 years ago during the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 8). The shape, named after its similarity to the silkworm cocoon, evolved during the late Warring States period (475 - 221 BC) and then generally died out by the middle of the Western Han. Chinese Tang Dynasty Changsha Bowl from 9th Century Shipwreck (c. AD 826)
This rare decorated glazed bowl was made around AD 826, during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906) at the Changsha kilns. We can be that precise about the dating because it was excavated from the "Belitung Wreck" in 1998-99, a mile off the coast of Belitung, Indonesia... Ancient bronze food container dating from the Han Dynasty (206BC-220AD). With a domed cover with loop handles. When inverted the cover becomes a tripod dish.
H. 15 cm, Diameter 21,5 cm.
Condition: Good condition with excellent verdegris and lapis patina.
