A metal box which contains an ink stone to grind ink sticks for writing. The box has been cast in light colored brass and has a copper bottom. The ink stone is secured in the lid with a spring frame. The top of the box shows a beautifully engraved lotus flower with leafs and a bud. There are also engraved Chinese characters which say the box was presented by a younger brother to his older brother. The box measures about 3 5/8" long x 2 3/8" wide x 1" tall. The box is 3.4 inches (8.7 cm) tall by 7.8 inches (20 cm) long and 5.55 inches (14.1 cm) wide. Each tile is 0.5 inch thick (1.2 cm) by 1.2 inches (3 cm) in length and 0.84 inch (2.1 cm) wide. It is 4.1 lb.
