A Chinese silver goblet embossed with a continuous scene of figures and horses set against a background of pavilions, mountains, pagoda and trees. It is raised on three entwined bamboo branches. This is a high quality object of vertu, the figures have human faces with features- look for a laughing old man with animated face. Although we have seen several jars of a generally similar form (usually attributed to the earlier Song Dynasty) we have never before seen a jar of this form with underglaze cobalt blue decoration...

Large Chinese Yuan Dynasty Blue & White Jar with Cover - Oxford TL Test

This large and rare early underglazed jar, complete with cover, was made during the Yuan Dynasty (AD 1279 - 1368) at one of the kilns at Yuxi in Yunnan province. Although classed as "blue & white" ware, the colour of the underglaze cobalt blue does vary in places and the clear glaze is distinctly greenish in colour...

Early 19c Chinese scholar’s carved rosewood double dragon brush rest. The dragons have wonderful facial features with turned up snouts. There is a round knob on the top between the two facing dragons to turn it easily. The bodies, feet and curling tails are wonderful. Workmanship and quality is superb, showing early original patina to the surfaces. The color is a rich reddish brown with all the shiny areas right where they should be from handling...
