Chinese ceramic Buddha, circa 1900-1930 (Qing – Early Republic). The iconography is quite unusual there is a seated Buddha image on the chest, standing Buddha image on the back, and another image of the Buddha in Parinirvana reclining pose. Overall a very intriguing piece, possibly meant for export to another Asian nation. Excellent original condition- no cracks, chips or frits. H: 15cm/6in and W: 9cm/3.5in.

A fascinating large wooden plaque known as qian. The qian is often seen in Daoist temples in the form of a collection of bamboo sticks placed in a bamboo cup and devotees will shake the cup to receive their fortune or oracle from the gods. The front of the panel contains an inscription stating this qian is of the formal troop of an army emanating their highest powers (or divine powers). the back of the piece also has an inscription which most of it is lost...

Finely carved foo dog playing with a small ball done in Jade. The fur of the foo dog is carved in stylized scrolled motif with detail work showing each fur. Foo dogs are an auspicious motif in East Asia and often paintings and sculptures are produced. Age: 20th century. Size: height 1.3" width 1.75" length 2.5"

Wonderfully made Chinese Statue of the mythical diety Zhong Kui. Zhong Kui was seen as many symbols including, protector of evil spirits, expeller of demons plague, and protects homes with male children. Zhong Kui is posing triumphantly with sword in hand, and a bat in the other. His foot is resting on a demon he commands. A beautifully carved and gilt boxwood figure of Guan Yin / Guanyin. The goddess is holding the holy Buddhist scripture and has placed her hand between the open pages. China, Republic period, c 1920. The surface of the carving is covered with a thin layer of red that mixes with the gilt. The figure can be fixed to an oval wooden stand. Height (the stand not included) "4 ¾ / 12.3 cm. Antique pair of Chinese Shi (fu-lions). Carved of wood and lacquered red. These traditional guardians were placed on either side of an important door to guard against dangerous spiritual elements and people. They are male (with his paw on a ball) and female (with a cub).

A lovely pairing of the bodhisattva diety Kwan Yin riding a Chinese lion or fu dog. The Kwan Yin is set in a leisurely pose with her medicine bottle. Porcelain polychrome statue of the noted sage, Liu Hai. Liu Hai was the noted 10th century alchemist who learned the secret of immortality from the three legged frog, Jin chan (Chan chu). The frog is known for beckoning wealth. Later, in China and Japan, the combination of Liu Hai and the frog became the symbol of fortune and wealth.
