Beautiful Chinese spirit/scholar's rock with a dark hardwood stand. Scholar's stones, or gōngshí, are called as such for scholars' appreciation of the stone's unusual shapes, textures, asymmetry, glossiness, color patterns, and even the sound it makes when struck. An antique Chinese Lingbi stone (scholar's rock or spirit stone) has a very distinct ring when it is struck. Scholar's rocks are appreciated for their unusual shapes, asymmetry, color and texture. Scholars refer to them as "bones of the earth". It is a carved blackish stone overhang with perforations. It set upon a contemporary Shuozhou style carved rosewood base with 4 rounded feet.

A rare lacquered scholar's screen with a Kylin and rider on the front. The back panel has a still life which has faded. Size: H. 61cm. W. 45cm. Condition: Fading and some peeling on both sides from age. Can be restored.

An unusual underglaze blue Chinese cricket jar with charming scenes of a scholar in garden settings. The condition is very good without chips, cracks, or hairlines. Dating circa 1900, it measures 5" across x 3.5" high.

A small metal box which contains an ink stone to grind ink sticks for writing. The box has been cast in brass and has a copper bottom. The ink stone is secured in the lid with a spring frame. The top of the box shows an engraved landscape design with a scholar figure and a hut. By all appearances the box has not been used as it does not show ink stains, and it still has a new looking, temporary, six sided factory mark inside. Also there are Chinese characters engraved on the lid...
