A fine root wood figure depicting an aged Daoist Immortal, holding a ruyi scepter in one hand and standing on a high rock surrounded by waves in an imaginary sea . The head of the Immortal is partly carved while the body and partly the stand are naturally shaped. Made of two parts fixed together. Ming Dynasty, 17th cent. H. 20,5 cm. Condition: very good patina with some wear .

The artist has represented a standing character, leaning on a broom, with a blissful and amused expression on his face turned towards the sky. This is probably Shih Te, a mischievous young Chinese monk who, according to legend, lived in the Kwo-Ching-Su temple in China during the Tang period around the 9th century. He is always represented with a broom because he was employed in the maintenance of the temple...

Description: A precious inkstone was newly excavated in perfect condition. Carved exquisitely on the surface of the cover with typical motifs of cranes' pine trees, creek and clouds, the instone was shaped in square Cha-Sou type and in three parts. Twin decks of ink pools were rarely find when the inkstone was made of precious Xer stone. With beautiful dark gray tint, brownish incursions were spread all over the surface. Exemplifying the serene beauty of Song sculptural art, the deity’s head dress was an ornate tiara which had been partially damaged.
In holy facial expression, the Bodhisattva was molded and carved by the features of a Chinese lady.
When applied with white pigment on the face, the Bodhisattva was decorated with glassed eyes.

Description:
A well-modelled cat shown coiled on a circular base which surrounded by Bo-Shan(mountain ridges) with head turned and resting on its back, the tail emerging in the center and three paws together at the front.

Comparing to the pieces we’ve usually seen in obvious bronze material and was gilt on the surface, this tiger weight was calcified totally and was covered with the burial BaoJiang(the mineral coatings)...

Song Dynasty Jun ware brush shaper or brushwasher. This was originally the base of flower vase which was later reworked into a scholar’s object. The brown clay indicates this was fired in Henan and in my opinion is representative of the kind that was acquired for the Imperial Qing collection rather then the more typical bowls and saucers. The top surface has more discoloration and minor scratches which indicates, that the repurposing was done some time ago...

This very rare vessel, a water pot, was made during the Northern Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1127). The vessel is zoomorphic being in the form of a recumbent animal with four legs/feet tucked under its body. Where an animal's head would be is a wide circular pouring spout. It is a very rare piece from excavation.
Made of the characteristic soapstone 布丁石 or 滑石 of the dated Tang periods, the item was made in shape by imitating the Persian ware which was affluent in that periods.
Two Similar porcelain pieces were found in the famous Idemitsu Museum出光美術館 of Japan and The Asian Art Museum of San Francisco.

The teapot is cast in bronze. The body has the shape of a melon and the spout that of a stylized bird. The handle supports have a typical shape for this period. The handle, which has now disappeared, must have been made of perishable materials, probably braided bamboo fibre. It is exceedingly rare to find a Chinese bronze teapot from this period. It is functional and perfectly pours the tea without uncontrolled drips. Good condition, the lid is crack (see photo), no restoration...

Fine and rare Longquan classic celadon bottle with an unusual shape- like a truncated meiping. The depth of the glaze achieves the ideal “jade like” quality that is much sought after by celadon collectors. The Ming attribution is conservative based on the inward beveling on the footrim and reddish slip visible on the glazed edge, but Yuan or Song cannot be completely ruled out...

Rubbing taken from a Han Dynasty tomb vault wall depicting an elegant royal mounted entourage being greeted by courtiers. Excellent detail, horizontally mounted as a scroll with textured silk border. The calligraphy translates “Outstanding old scene” signed Zhao Jianchang. L: 197cm/76in x H: 58cm/23in, with mounting-L: 243cm/95in and W: 68cm/27in.

Rare early “si zhi” (four straight lines) style inkstone carved from an old fired brick. The characters on the brick are in an archaic style, no longer in use today. The square shaped flat bottomed inkstone with sloping grinding surface did not become popular until the Song Dynasty, so it is possible this was made into a inkstone long after it was a brick. Chinese are very fond of creating ink stones out of “found objects” such as roof tiles etc...
