A miniature vase, decorated in underglaze blue with garlands of grapevines. China, Yongzheng to early Qianlong, 18th century. Interestingly, the same decoration has been found on many of the blue and white plates in the cargo of Swedish East Indiaman Götheborg which went down just outside the town with that name in 1745. Height "3 ¼ / 8.3 cm. Condition: an old restoration overpaint to the mouth rim has been removed to leave just the filling (cf. pics).

A rare antique Chinese Longquan, celadon glazed charger dating from the Ming Dynasty 15th Century. Thickly molded with a raised edge to the rim flange and a band of recessed petals tapering inward along the cavetto toward a peony flower roundel impressed to the center of the well. The rich olive green glaze covering all surfaces except a cinnamon-burnt firing ring within the recessed base (glaze abraded). The plate has a raised rim with a surrounding comb design...

A small late Ming Dynasty underglaze blue porcelain dish featuring a flower basket design. In excellent original condition with no cracks, no hairlines, and no repairs. Measures 5 7/8 inches diameter, 1 inch high.

Baluster vase with Flambé glaze in red, green and black, where the lighter parts are crackeled and the black is close to mirror black. San-Yang Kai-Tai or transmutation glazed, representing the change of seasons, from winter into spring. China, early 20th century, Republic period. Two Chinese late Qing dynasty Guangxu period porcelain lidded ginger jars densely decorated around the circumference in famille rose enamels with a continuous spring fishing festival scene. This pattern is often referred to as the "one hundred boys" motif. Children are on the street performing the dragon dance, participants are seated in a dragon boat, and onlookers watch from a bridge and a traditional building. Chinese Qing dynasty stem cup with everted rim decorated around the exterior of the cup with two faintly incised green five-clawed dragons chasing a flaming pearl set against an egg-yolk yellow background. A green phoenix is at the interior well. A six-character kaishu form underglaze blue Guangxu mark is at the bottom of the interior stem. Probably of the period and dating circa 1900. 3 3/8” high x just under 4 1/2" diameter; weighs 120 grams (4 1/4 ounces)...

Circa 1860, cylindrical Chinese Yixing red stoneware teapot with dished flat cover and loose iron wire swing handles. Brightly decorated in colored enamels with a phoenix bird amongst lotus and foliage. The teapot has various stamped and incised marks, one on the lid, one on base bottom, and 2 incised marks on the pot exterior just under the handle on the side opposite the spout. Measures 5.25 inches high; length including spout 7"...

Occasionally while browsing through the temple markets of Kyoto or perusing backstreets tea-ware shops, an attractive piece will catch my eye for no particular reason. When this happens, I typically buy it immediately without hesitation, trusting that I will be able to place it to a specific period or kiln given enough time and research...

Chinese blanc de chine porcelain figure of the bodhisattva of compassion Quan Yin. She is sculpted lounging against an armrest with a lion's face. One of her delicate hands is emerged out from her robes, clutching a sutra scroll. The bodhisattva is easily identified by her large ear lobes and protruding third eye, attributes of an immortal being. Her backside is signed with a chop and a gourd shaped signature.

A rare Chinese large jar.These jars were originally used for storage of food for trading ships. They were eventually traded to the natives in Southeast Asia, mainly Borneo, and were highly prized. The center of the vase has a relief of two dragon with white claws. Size: H. 70 cm. W.46 cm. Condition: Very good with no repairs.

A stunning Chinese porcelain Dayazhai-type jar grisaille painted with yellow ground. The monochromatic imagery of black and grey peonies against a yellow enamel ground scrolls around the body under a band of ruyi heads below a band of key-fret. With descriptive tag on the base "From the Hall of Embodied Harmony". There is also a Museum Porcelain Exhibition tag. The tag has some losses but shows that the Exhibition was in the 1960's - item #238...

A very large authentic Tang tomb guardian wearing a typical warrior's uniform standing on an evil earth creature with remains of the original pigments. The guardian was there to protect the tomb from these evil creatures. The item was found with its parts separated.Large statues like this were made in several parts. See last photo. Age: Tang Dynasty 618 - 907 AD. Size: H.86cm. W.38cm Condition: Very good for its age.

A very good Famille Rose Jardiniere / Fish Basin decorated with 3 large cartouche with butterflies, rocks and flowers of different types surrounded by wines, flowers and bats ( bianfu). Gold to rim with some wear. Qing midle of the 19th. H 30,5 cm x Diam 36 cm . Condition: a star crack on one side otherwise fine.
