The cover is carved in detail with a laughing, mischievous boy holding some of the fruit. The vase stands on a separate base which is formed to resemble a rock. A small monkey is carved hanging onto the edge of the large peach, in a playful frog like pose. The reticulated carved brush washer rests on two small carved peaches as the feet.

The outside has scrolling foliage and the handle is formed as a flower spray with a flat reticulated top surface. An excellent example of 16/17 century lapidary art and in excellent condition. The back has a carved rectangular opening where the figure would have held sacred texts, imbuing to it a spiritual life. It measures 26" tall. Lacquered pedestal base is included to hold the figure upright.

Beautifully carved with great attention to detail and form. Ruyi scepters were used in Chinese Buddhist ceremonies and as symbols of good fortune, luxury and power.
