Large Chinese Warring States Impressed Pottery jar (475 - 221 BC)

This large pottery jar was made during the Warring States period (475 - 221 BC). It is made from a high-fired pale orange-brown pottery, the surface colour of which varies in places. It is of globular form with quite a wide mouth. The whole outer surface has been decorated with repeated impressed geometric patterns comprising vertical and horizontal lines.

The tube of the pipe is simply cut from a natural bamboo stem to which the artist has chosen to leave some secondary stem ends. The frame, mainly in bronze, is composed of several layers of metals, alloys of different colors, yellow , red-brown and grayish-black, finely cut with motifs, bats, swastikas and stylized Lingzhi,wishing 10,000 years of happiness and long life. An archaic style Chinese jade object in the style of Han burial Jade objects. Top contains a motif of mythical beasts and the center section is incised with scrolling vines with a circular hole carved out in the center.The clear line seen below the beasts is a plastic wire to attach the jade piece on the black felt panel. It is made from a relatively highly-fired pale-coloured pottery, varying from a pale grey to a pinkish-brown in colour (this colour variation is often seen with earthenware that is more highly-fired than other pieces). It has been "cold-painted" in various coloured pigments...

This is an awesome, excellently carved Urn made from Celadon Nephrite Jade with Mutton Fat and Russet inclusions.

It is carved with a Xiezhi (Justice Beast) motive. Two of these mythical creatures are shown sprawling in a recumbent manner on the front and back of the vase, with two stylized creatures crawling up on the sides. It has Xiezhi head handles with rings placed in the manner of the four directional coordinates...

Museum quality ancient Han dynasty, 206 BC – 220 AD, lead green deep dish from Luoyang, Henan Province. Excellent patina with the original silvering left intact on the rim of the dish. The 3rd photo shows a spur mark left by one of the clay firing stilts used to prop the dish to prevent it from sticking to the kiln floor. We have not seen another advertised for sale anywhere, other than the common cold painted types...
