Rare Pair of Embroidered Pillow Ends with a Phoenix Family (mother and father and five chicks, symbolizing a happy family) and the Ten Symbols of Long Life (Sipjangsaeng): pine tree, sun, deer, crane, tortoise, the mythical bullocho plant, mountain, river, bamboo, and clouds. When the deer are paired, as they are here, they are also a symbol of eternal love. 5.75 inches, 14.5 cm.

A rare, finely cast, pear shaped bronze vase coated with copper oxide ("malachite") encrustation. This item was made in Korea in the 12th or 13th Century during the Koryo dynasty (AD 936-1392). Condition: unusually, very good - there is a 2mm hole in the foot (possibly drilled at the time of making for a strengthening rivet)- please view enlargement 7 - and there are a number of shallow scarcely visible bumps, the largest with associated surface abrasion...

So-called "yawarakade" (soft-type) for Japanese tea ceremonial term, from Early Joseon Dynasty, 15-16th century as the transitional era of white porcelain manufacturing.
Aesthetic elliptic bowl of bold and shallow mold with thin-made wall in the elegant natural distortion, coated in "soft" white glaze with scenic translucent blue coagulation in the mature layer crackle textures.
