A large Chinese snuff bottle, well hollowed, carved from a celadon jade pebble with brown sections. The front side showing a relief of a monkey at a vine. The stopper is made from turqoise glazed ceramic with bone spoon. Condition: few traces of usage. Dimension: total length: c. 9.3 cm, c. 5.5 cm wide, c. 3.2 cm deep.

The front and case were made using burl Keyaki (Zelkova) wood with Hinoki (Cypress) wood completing the rest of the chest. Constructed using straight dovetail joinery with hardened wood nails. Hand forged iron hardware including the Mokko style handles.

$2,450.00 Antique Japanese pair of jingasa, hats worn by samurai or foot soldiers. Lacquered black and marked with the mon (family crest) of the Ogasawara clan. The Ogasawara were descended from Seiwa Genji. They acted as shugo, governing Shinamo Provence during the Sengoku Period (1185-1600). This pair of hats dates to the Edo Period (1608-1867) when the Ogasawara were daimyo (feudal lords) of territories on Kyushu.
