Smooth and serene Marble Shakyamuni Buddha subduing Mara. Robe and base are brown with some fine details and gilding. The head of the Buddha is covered with a multitude of small pointed hairlocks called "Shwebo-thorns" on top of which is the stupa shaped flame. An antique Japanese Choba Tansu (merchant store chest) made of Kuwa (old Mulberry) and Kirinoki (Paulownia) woods. All original hand made iron fittings and finish. Two center hinged doors are removable with the hook and loop style hinge design. Edo Period Portable Wood Buddhist Shrine with Exquisite Carving. 17h x 12w inches, 43h x 30.5w cm. In Buddhism, portable shrines were made so that devout travelers with nowhere to worship could carry their shrines with them. The shrines were made with closing doors, to preserve the artwork. This shrine features exquisitely carved deities and finely lacquered details.

A very rare and unusual Japanese 2-panel astrology screen. The blue pigmented mica-flecked screen depicts the Northern Hemisphere and shows Hokuto Shichi Sei, the 7 star constellation or the Big Dipper which points to the North Star. The celestial chart is surrounded by calligraphy naming processional years.

Serene and calm landscape of the mountains with three figures, two men and a boy, sitting by the river bank. There are two inscriptions at the top with seal marks below them. It is mounted on a yellow paper with a medallion pattern. The image measures 17" wide 50.25" long, overall 24" wide 90" long.

Antique Chinese tassels from the 18th centur, Sino-TIbetan. The tassels are inlaid gilt and lacquered iron with red horse hair, probably used as ornaments on a horse for the saddle. The decoration has fret key bands and an endless knot pattern. The tassles are displayed in a plastic case. The top of the tassle measures 4" long(10.2 cm).

Tetsuya Noda, born 1940 in Kyushu. The art is a framed silkscreen mixed media work, part of the "Diary" series dated August 26th, 1985. The image and title is of his home town in Kayuwara. The edition is 11 of 15. The image size is 36 x 23 inches and 47.5 x 35.625 inches with frame. Excellent condition. Noda is part of the Sōsaku-hanga art movement and is considered a major 20th century Japanese artist.

Japanese choba from Sakata area, Japan. Made entirely of Keyaki wood (elm) with burl wood. Heavy iron hardware, including elaborately cut lock plates with square shaped handles, the side has warabite shaped handles. The pulls for opening the sliding panels are inlaid with mother of pearl and edge with carved persimmon. Interior has one shelf. Well crafted joinery and tenons original lacquered finish in excellent condition.

A pair of hanging calligraphy scrolls with a couplet verse inscribed signed with the name of the noted Chinese artist, Zhang Da Qian (1899- 1983) known for his traditional landscapes, lotuses, and human figures. The scroll expresses the scenery of the mountains and the plum blossoms in full bloom marking the return of spring. Age: 20th century Size: Length 68.6" Width 15.8"
