Fine Rare Chinese Warring States Painted Pottery Jug

This very rare pottery vessel was made during the Warring States period (475 - 221 BC). It is quite highly-fired and "heavily-potted" with a sturdy handle and the mouth fashioned to form a pouring lip. Old three paneled wedding bed cover from the Zhuang ethnic group Southern China- silk floss weft embroidered pattern on hand woven cotton field. Good condtion- some minor loss to edge of head end edge. L: 138cm/54in and W: 105cm/41in.

Han-juban, short under kimono, made of hand-spun cotton and dyed with benibana (safflower). The dye technique is Beni-itajime which is board-clamp dye. The cloth is folded in some layers between two boards which are pattern carved and generally about 12 boards are used to dye about 22m length of cloth. Beni-itajime was mostly dyed in Kyoto until the end of Edo period but it was practiced in other places later. The lining is also hand-spun cotton and vegetable indigo dye. Korean Koryo Dynasty 13th/14th Century Glazed Stoneware Bottle / Jar

This attractively-shaped stoneware bottle was made during the 13th / 14th century. It has a wide round body, a short narrow neck and a cup-shaped mouth. The surface is coated in a finely-crackled olive-green glaze, the colour varying in places according to its thickness. In places where the glaze is particularly thin, it has degraded a little over time and flaked from the surface.

Good small early circa 14th/15th century porcelain jar, with abstract floral scroll pattern, from Vietnam. There is a surface frit noted in enlargements. D: 8.9cm/3.5in and H: 8cm/3.1in.

Rare “kiln waster” possibly from the Qingliangsi Kiln, Baofeng, Henan- see reference in last enlargement. D: 11.8cm/4.7in and H: 4cm/1.6in. Very shiny black glaze. There is one star crack on the side as well as “slag” adhesions on the rim. Please examine enlargements. May still be used for tea ceremony if you don't mind a little "wabi sabi"

Rare Chinese Han Dynasty Painted Pottery Bowl with Spoon

This rare pottery bowl with spoon was made during the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 8). Both are made from a fairly high-fired grey pottery and quite "heavily-potted" with the inner surfaces cold-painted in red pigment. The bowl has a "rolled" rim with incised bands surrounding the body just below the rim. There is a recessed circular area in the centre of the bowl. Cotton kimono called "yukata" with bold polka dot pattern. The dye technique is called "chusen" which is one kind of stenciled paste-resist-dye. Several 10s of layers of cotton fabric can be dyed by pouring the dye liquid. Lovely pair of exquisite, miniature porcelain vases with Ge type glaze circa mid-20th century (possibly older). On the bottom there are two characters “ya wan”, meaning elegant entertainment. This attractive blue & white porcelain bowl was made c. 1470 - 1490. It is quite heavily-potted and coated in a crackled glaze. Both K on cuffs are inlaid by Gold. It is from 1930’s
vintage 90 years which almost 100 years antique. The background

Traditional scroll painting of what I am assuming is the Chinese ideal of a courtesan putting her make up on in morning. This was painted in the year of the Fire Rat- 1936 or 1996. I would tend put this at the earlier date because the paper shows some age and this has been newly remounted, as well as the style is evoking feeling of a French boudoir. W: 33cm /13in x H: 72cm/28.5in- mounted W: 56cm/22in x H: 138cm/54.5in.
