Antique hand-woven bamboo basket, originating from the Jarai culture in Vietnam. Secured with wood frame, baskets of this kind were primarily used for collecting and storing rice. The lid is woven with a tall, wood finial with pierced hole for securing it down with ties. The sides of the basket are woven with alternating darker and lighter bamboo to create a pair of bands over a geometric diamond design, with remnants of red pigments.

A Dayak sword - Mandau - with rattan bound deer antler handle in the form of a finely carved zoomorphic (possibly deer's) head. The iron blade is engraved with stylized scrolling vine decoration. This item was made (and used) during either the 19th or very early 20th Century. Condition: very good, but the sword is without its scabbard and the bade has seen much use, having many nicks to the cutting edge; also much of the decorative brass inlay to the blade is missing...

A rare antique Cinnabar Red Lacquer Basket from Northern Thailand. 19th Century. A very labour intensive handmade procedure where woven and coiled bamboo and clay formed the base of this container. Furthermore, 6 ribs were bent and curved to form feet at the base. The top was curved and rolled inwards and many coats of lacquer were applied over and over after drying each one. Overall condition good, some wear, size: 17.5 cm. height x 38 cm. top diameter, 24 cm. bottom diameter.
