From memory we think the scene depicts one of the many alcoves at the massive Ananda Temple complex in Pagan, though in all candor we cannot be entirely certain. Lovely bronze Buddha in the naïve style that is so typical for Laos. It's heavily cast. The Buddha in Bhumisparsa Mudra, seated on a lotus throne. H. 26 cm. Very nice age wear and good patina. There is a minor hole in the front, this is a casting flaw.

Antique wooden lusong (mortar). This lusong was used with a lomok (pestal) by the B'laan people to pound rice in order to separate the grain from the husks. The B'laan people are indigenous of Southern Mindanao in the Philippines. This lusong is especially large and beautifully carved of a single piece of hardwood. Size: 24 1/2" high x 21 1/4" wide diameter.

Antique Tibetan bronze double vajra, an important symbol in Vajrayana Buddhism, Hinduism, and Tantra religions. The name vajra means both thunderbolt and diamond, as it is a symbol of brute strength and indestructibility. The double vajra mirrors the outline of a mandala; Its four points represent North, South, East, and West. An ornate tubular skirt, worn by wealthy women in Lampung, Sumatra. Woven in one piece, the striped cotton fabric decorated with couched gold-wrapped thread work and few sequins. Condition: fine, probably missing sequins. Dimension: 116 cm x 60 cm (double).

A leather or skin bag with original wonderfully cast brass fittings, both ends of the chain in the form of a singha head, the mythical beast, totem for all Batak People.
