Downcast eyes with lids barely open, a gentle smile on his face, he exudes a sense of calm. With lovely patina and traces of gilt. Age: Ayutthaya (1350-1767 A.D.) Antique Thai gilt cast bronze figure of a recumbent temple deer. These sika deer are closely associated with the Buddha because of his "Teaching in the Deer Park" in Sarnath. Buddha's teaching, or "Spinning the Wheel of the Law" further links the deer to this sacred event. Thus deer are often depicted with the Wheel of the Law, or Dharmachakra in a temple setting. With one leg bent under his body and one outstretched, the deer turns a long, graceful neck to look back over it's shoulder...

H. 22,5 cm. old repairs to the foot. Nice patina. Very fine face and nice decorations on the chest.

Thai bronze head of a Bodhisattva. Ayutthaya period. Presentable decorative condition with tips of earlobes missing, core exposed atop head, and the body missing of course. Black lacquer and traces of gilt on the diadem and the back of the neck. Height of the head , about 3 3/4 inches (9.54 cm) not including the pin for securing on plinth. Total height including the plinth, 5 7/8 inches (14.9 cm)...

Quality old Thai bronze Buddha bust on a timber plinth; age-related surface wear; finely cast and in good condition

From an ancient Ayuthaya Collector: 18/19th Century BRONZE CHIENGSAEN BUDDHA Subduing Mara. Size: Height 30.5" x width 20" x depth 10.5". Fine old, original patina. This is one of the 3 Buddhas which belonged to the collector and which represents the Thai ideal of possessing the 3 most desirable images, i.e. UTHONG, CHIENGSAEN and SUKKOTHAI.

Finely cast, with a nice facial expression, the eyes downward, hands in Bhumisparsa Mudra ( calling the earth to witness). Excellent green patina.
