Sold. An antique Tibetan buckle made of chiseled iron and damascened in gold, originating from a bridle or a belt. The fitting with hook is beautifully decorated with a lotus among scrollwork and a wave pattern (chu ris). Condition: little rust, few traces of usage. Dimension: 10 cm and 5 cm long, 76 g.

A punch dagger with tapering double edged steel blade, each face decorated with a four-armed deity. Straight handle with double-grip, decorated on the side with flowers. Sheath made of wood with velvet lining. Condition: tip slightly chipped, sheath with losses. Some flash rust. Dimension: 44.6 cm long, 7.4 cm wide.

Sold. An Indian Kalamkari mat, probably from Coromandel coast, made of slightly padded and quilted chintz. The cotton ground is block-printed and painted with a central medallion surrounded by meandering exotic flowers and crenelation. Lined with printed cotton, indigo dyed fabric edging. Condition: clean, few very small old mends, little small age stains. Dimension: 121 cm x 83 cm.

Sold. A mother-of-pearl and bone inlaid wood crucifix, fixed on a pyramidal base and with affixed cylinders. Decorated with symbols of the Franciscan order, geometric and floral patterns. The origin (and age)of these crosses is still not evident, they are attributed to the Near East, specifically the Jerusalem area or the Indian Subcontinent, Gujarat. Condition: few missing inlays, few cracks, reverse with oldly filled cracks, top of base with apparently missing inlays...

Good condition, finger marks to corners, stain across centre fold, each page 19 x 6 cm cm. Undated estimated to be late 19th century or earlier. In thick double fronted mount.
Can be viewed in London.
Such texts would have been used as a mnemonic device by the master of chant. The type of graphic notation of the melody line goes back to the 6th century...

The metal base, here copper or bronze, was first engraved with special tools to create the design in relief, the grooves were later filled with glass and then embellished with additional engraving and shiny gilding. This technique is called in India "meena" or "meenakari" and was first applied by the Mughal. With a small handwritten note explaining its provenance. Dimension: 20.8 cm long, 14 cm high, weight: 688 g.
