Quirky ensemble of 4 Ming Dynasty (plus one from the Tang Dynasty) sancai courtiers holding Rats, which in the Chinese Zodiac are considered the first of the signs with the attributes of spirit, wit, alertness, delicacy, flexibility and vitality. These all came from different sets and were intentionally aggregated by the original owner. See notes below enlargements for dimension and details.
Kraak porcelain export dish from the Wanli period (1573-1619). Diameter 14,8 cm. , H. 4,5 cm. Condition: very minor flea bites to the rim, a 6 mm rough spot in the glaze on the rim, probably a firing flaw. No cracks or repairs. Some oven sand attached to the foot rim.
Height approximately 18 cm. There are cracks on the body and bottom. More pictures are available.

USD $275.00 A MING SWATOW (ca. 1625) Chinese Blue & White Porcelain Plate with thick, shiny glaze, depicting a Phoenix in the center medallion surrounded by a border featuring auspicious symbols. The back side of the plate also has some decor. There are a few firing imperfections (unglazed well/spots) as shown in the photograph and some kiln sand/grit deposit on the back base of the plate, which is common in Ming ware and a sign of authenticity. Very good condition, no cracks, hairlines nor restorations...

Price on Request A superior example of a Ming Dynasty blue and white Swatow porcelain plate which dates from the Wanli Reign (1573 - 1619). It has a thick crackled glaze and the center medallion is hand painted with a rare crossed double phoenix motif (male and female) and nicely surrounded by foliage, a large peony and other flowers. This stunning ensemble is surrounded by 5 very attractive border panels. As this is a shipwreck dish there is no question as to it's authenticity...
Diameter approximately 38 cm. There are 2 hairlines at the rim. in good condition.
