Old wooden stand acquired from a US expat estate in 1987, this was made between 1950 and 1980. The legs are inserted. Minor natural “check” in the top, and this piece is sort of shaped like Australia (no extra charge). 14cm/5.5in x 10cm/4cm and 4cm/1.6in.

Maginficent, antique basket from the Naxi/Nakhi ethnic group in Yunnan province. I purchased this in 2001 at local market in Lijiang (now a UNESCO heritage site). Constructed of bamboo with much of lacquer intact, this piece is circa 50 to 80 years old, most interesting is an auspicious coin symbol woven into the top. This kind of thing always reminds of the labor intensiveness that is put in to decorating such a humble object...

Unusual pottery bowl with hand molded snake handle. I cannot find any pieces similar in style to this although the reddish clay and heavy potting are reminiscent of Hongshan pottery. This came out of China and has a good petrichor and water absorption on the base, very old- at least 2000 to 3000 years old but probably older. W: 14cm/5.5in and H: 12cm/4.7in.

A rare neolithic jade axe from China. Age: 2,000 BC. Size: L. 12.5cm. Condition: Some chips at the cutting edge and one small chip at the rear of the underside.

This is an example of a well-known type of Neolithic jade ornament from the Hongshan culture. The piece is of a pale green nephrite with brown inclusions and some minor calcification. It measures 2-3/4" in height and is 1-3/4" at the widest point. The piece has an exceptionally smooth, polished feel and is almost paper thin. There are, of course, no traces of any metal tools having been used and the piece has the characteristic tapering to the holes...

An important and extremely rare Chinese Liangzhu culture (3400~2250 BC)pottery pot. Less than 300 pieces without restoration of Liangzhu pottery wares were ever reported by all museums in China. Lovely Neolithic jar with a single lug from the Qijia or Siwa Cultures circa 1500BCE...

A miniature neolithic pottery jar with fishnet pattern and outlined in black separated by fields of X patterns. Attached to the rim are two lug handles. Age:Hongshan Culture, 2nd half to 3rd millennium BC. Size: H. 9cm. Rim Radius 9cm. Condition: No repairs. Few chips from age.

A rare and very old neolithic pottery jar from the Qijia culture from Gansu Province, China, 2050 - 1200 BC. Being corded, when the clay was wet, fabric was applied making pattern. When it was fired, the fabric would burn off, leaving the design. In excellent condition, no restoration or repairs, it measures 6.5" high.

Neolithic/Bronze Age reddish clay, pottery jar from an unknown culture. I acquired this in a group of Chinese Neolithic pottery pieces but I can’t find any references to this being Chinese. I tend to think this from Thailand or some other Southeast Asian culture. Low fired with very good near invisible restoration. If you know what this is, drop me a line and let me know. A very unique jade carving of a bird's head with a tapered body. The black coloring is the result of a long burial period. Under certain lighting conditions the jade has a translucent appearance. I tried to capture some of it in the photos. Provenance: From Beijing many years ago from an old Chinese collector. Size: L. 6.4cm. W. 4cm. Condition: No cracks or repairs.
