Chinese late Qing dynasty sang-de-boeuf (oxblood) flambé glazed cylindrical form censer. The oxblood glaze drips inside at the rim above the thick off-white glaze lining the interior. The censer rests upon vestiges of three small tripod legs. The base is unglazed and has burnt orange. As is typical of late 19th century examples, the base shows evidence where the glaze ran off the base and was broken off the kiln supports. 7 3/8” diameter x 5 1/2” high. Large Chinese Qing dynasty naturalistic form wood scroll pot carved from a single piece of wood with human figures, a monkey holding the peach of immortality, and other creatures extending around the exterior. It was clearly not designed to hold water as there are openwork areas throughout. The top reveals two separate holders. Hard stone cup, probably Jadeite. The more or less pale nuanced ocher colored stone is stained with a pretty green and veined with rust. The cut is very thin which required good control. Uneven grinding and a soft sheen suggest that this cut is ancient, difficult to date with certainty. Chinese work from the 19th century or before. Size:85x68x15mm Good condition.
