These items were made in China, in the late 17th or early 18th Century, during the reign of the Kangxi emperor (1662-1722).

This painting is of two courtesans waiting to entertain the emperor. The emperor would be seated in front of a screen of dragons. The empress would be seated in front of a scene with phoenixes. The courtesan on the right plays the flute while the courtesan on the left holds a fan. The skill of Qui Ying can be seen in the rendering of the sheer quality of the fan, the courtesan's sleeve is visible behind it...

Measures 94.5”V (85.5”V excluding mounting) x just under 23”H. 19th century or earlier. Very good overall condition. The second of two Chinese Qing scrolled paintings on silk after Ding Yunpeng (active 1584-1638). 19th century or earlier. The size, including mounting, is 91”V x 23 1/4”H (painting: 86”V x 21 1/8”H). Good overall condition. The top wood bar is missing and a section of the top silk mounting is tattered. The painting has some typical buckling, creasing, soiling, and wear. Price on Request Charming Chinese Ming Dynasty painting of a pair of cats sitting under a branch of blossoming peonies. The larger of the two cats, a calico, has his eyes fixed on a butterfly. The other cat, a wild eyed tabby, crouches with a large spider in his mouth. Wonderfully painted with great detail and whimsy. Mineral colors and ink on silk with silk mounting (was once a scroll). Price on Request Chinese scroll painting of a butterfly resting atop a blooming lily, with calligraphy and signature chop of Xie Zhi Liu (1910-1997), a well-known member of the Shanghai School who would later befriend the famous artist Zhang Daqian and joined him for later studies.
