Irwin Hersey was an advisor to museums and prominent collectors, and vetted pieces for many of the international tribal art fairs and Asian art fairs. He purchased this bowl from PB Auction in 1975. 4.5w x 1.75h inches, 11.5w x 4.5 cm.

Chinese Tang dynasty (618-907) pottery figure of a standing lady (often referred to as a “fat lady”), dressed in a long-sleeved, high-waisted, full-length robe. One boat-shaped shoe protrudes from the bottom of the robe. The sleeve of her gown covers her right hand while the left hand is exposed. Her hair is gathered in a double-topknot at the top of her head. Cold painted red pigment remains over the thin layer of white slip covering the red pottery...

$985 DESCRIPTION: A fierce pair of Chinese pottery foo dogs, early Qing, 18th/19th C., covered with a heavy green glaze and seated on pedestals. Each bares its teeth ferociously while holding a ball between their front paws as well as in their mouths. Good detail with finely ribbed backs and curled manes. Very good condition. DIMENSIONS: Each approximately 9 ½” high (24 cm) x 5” wide (12.7 cm).
Chinese pottery granary jar with amber and green glaze, round shape, decorated with bands of incised lines on the body, and supported by three legs in the shape of bears. It is difficult to find Han granary in amber and green glaze like this.

Rarely encountered Chinese Tang dynasty (618-907) pottery figure of a court gentleman (often referred to as a “fat man”) wearing a scarf hat and dressed in a long, belted gown with one arm raised, his hand covered by his voluminous sleeve, and the other hand holding the belt. An acrylic stand is included. 14 1/4” high (excluding stand). Circa 7th to 8th century. Very good overall condition with nice detailing. From an Arizona collection. Purchased in Hong Kong in 1996.
