Traces of original red pigment remain visible in crevices, hinting at the sculptureās once vibrant devotional life.

sold A beautiful pre-Angkor early 8th century Khmer sandstone Buddha in the typical Phnom Da style. The early 8th century Khmer representation of the Buddha presents a classic, early interpretation of Buddha as it began its journey in Cambodia. Here the Buddha can be seen with a contemplative and meditative gaze. This image holds deep significance within Buddhist tradition, conveying essential teachings and embodying the virtues of inner peace, mindfulness, and spiritual reflection... Statue of Buddha, his face reflecting a profound inner serenity, wearing monk's robes, sitting on an elevated throne, his hands in "bhumisparsa mudra". Slightly eroded alabaster. Height: 24.4 cm. Very good condition.
Note: The statue was hollowed out inside, a feature which is quite rare, such statues being carved outside only.
