Korea Three Kingdoms Period Gilt Bronze Standing Figure of Buddha

It is 5.3 inches (13.6 cm) tall by 2.05 inches (5.2 cm) wide. It is 300.6 gram.

It has pitting holes, rubbing gilding, oxidation, dents at the nose, and surface wears and scratches (as seen in the photos).

Cast bronze Buddha lacquered with colours and gilding. The cast iron is very thin, a volute decoration is incised on the robe, the colours are gone, there are still traces visible on the photo. The gilding has been applied cold on lacquer. The general aspect of the construction and the patina of the metal announces a very old bronze, the style is not conventional Chinese. It does not look Himalayan nor Mongolian. I think it is a Korean creation probably around 10th century or a little before...

The bowl has been formed by the process known as wrought, where the metal is worked into shape by beating it with a hammer. The hammering marks on this pan are clearly visible. The pan measures 4 3/4" high x 16 3/4" in diameter, and dates to the early 20th Century. It is good example of folk ware and metal art. The condition is very good, with some stains and corrosion that could be polished out...

The bowl was wrought to shape, and it shows the evidence of being hand pounded. The Bowl measures about 3 1/2" high x 13 1/2" in diameter, weighs about 3 1/2 pounds, and dates to the early 20th Century. The condition is very good with only minor surface tarnish and corrosion. It was the custom in Korea to polish brass, and such a bowl would shine up beautifully. ...
