The series paired beautiful women with the sixteen Buddhist rakan, or holy men. This image, titled "Saint Shokuran says Eating Badly is Unprofitable," is number 10 from the series. The rakan, who was known to have struggled with gluttony, is depicted in the scroll at the upper right holding up his associated symbolic item...
