Image size: 10 5/8”V x 9 ¼”H (paper size: 16 ½”V x 13 5/8”H). Red Nakayama seal verso. Very good overall condition with silver metallic pigments. There are two pieces of brown tape at the top edge verso and there is a very faint mat line barely evident...

This is a beautiful and rare original antique Japanese Polychrome Woodblock Print "Itsutomi" Ukiyo-e by Utagawa Toyokumi dated 1793 or 1795, Edo Period, depicting a beautifully dressed and elegant Lady with her Shamisen instrument on the floor. Calligraphy markings/seal. Overall in very good condition with very small inconsequential tear on the outside (right frame, see photo). Size: 15.5" x 10.25" (39.5 cm. x 26.5 cm). This Woodblock has now been framed under glass.

He is sometimes called the Japanese Picasso because of his prolific multi media creative work. He was part of the sasuka-hanga movement and the mingei, folk art, movement. He is from the northern region of Aomori and incorporated many of those local themes into his art. This print measures 11.75" wide by 15.5" tall...
