An early work featuring white walls in Autumn foliage by Kitamura Seigyu enclosed in the original signed double wooden box. The box appears to be titled HakuryuJi no yu (evening around Hakuryuji). There are many places named Hakuryuji in Japan, so it is difficult ot be specific, but near his home of Hokkaido, and a place he would have passed through is a Hakuryuji in mountainous and rural Akita prefecture...

A superbly rendered image of a golden-eyed monkey with prehensile tail curling upward in a fine mounting of golden striped brocade by Ota Issai. The scroll is 34 x 59 inches (86 x 150 cm) and is in excellent condition, completely remounted using quality materials without overpainting. Ota Issai (1892-1979) was born in Nishio city, Aichi prefecture near modern day Nagoya...

A pair of Japanese Edo Period scroll paintings by the painter Sumiyoshi Hiroyuki (1755-1811) , one of a dragon in the clouds and another of a tiger in a bamboo thicket, skillfully painted in sumi ink on silk and signed by the artist. The painter, Hiroyuki was as disciple of the painter, Hiromori and a of successor of the Sumiyoshi School which worked primarily for the Shogunate of Edo Period...

A lovely Japanese painting on paper of two men observing the moon. This scroll was sold on consignment by a Japanese dealer named Sakura. According to Sakura and in his opinion, this painting would date from 1800-1849, and is in fair to good condition. All genuine antique scrolls will show signs of wear and discoloration and in some cases damp staining. The painting appears to be salvaged and remounted at least 20 years ago. The scroll fits into a custom made box...

Three separate scenes are painted in a vertical flow, with the very peak of Mount Fuji at the top, and a flowing river at the foreground. Signature of Kano Tsunenobu (1638-1713). He is standing on a lotus on clouds and holds his hand in gebon josho. The mudra is the appropriate level for common citizens to be reborn in. Mineral colors and gold on silk. The garment exquisitely decorated in gold. Japan, late Muromachi or early Edo period, 16th century.

Japanese antique scroll painting of a praying mantis and blossoming chrysanthemums, painted in mineral colors on paper, beautiful detail and color, some minor losses, charming subject matter, Rimpa School, Edo Period, attributed to Ogata Korin. Total size of scroll: 62 1/4" high x 21 1/2" wide (19 1/2" wide not including ends). Size of art: 32 1/4" high x 14 3/4" wide.

A fine 18th Century Kano school painting depicted peony flowers. Behind the scene is a stream. It is painted with pigments of green (rokusho), which has been richly used. The combination of red and white flower symbolizes good fortune. This subject was painted in life size and a very good example of Kano school peony painting.

It is in good condition with patina. A highly decorative piece.

An exquisite bird and flower painting features a Java sparrow rests on a branch in resurrection lily. Circa early Edo period, early 17th Century. This delicate painting is executed on paper with ink and pigments. The both Java sparrow and the flower are not native to Japan, but they were imported as early as 17th century from China, when the artist was a official painter to the Tokugawa shogunate. A beautiful image of a massive swimming carp - a noble fish. Finely painted on silk with ink. The signature reads shikibuno sato yusen hironobu. Kano Hironobu(1778-1814) was active in the late Edo period. He inherited the hamacho kano family and became a court painter. In 1808, he granted an important title Hogen, which was given to extraordinary artist.

There are some light marks and crease present, otherwise the piece is in good condition. It is accompanied by a paulownia wood storage...
