Antique Japanese Funa Tansu (ship safe chest) made from beautiful Kuri (Chestnut) wood. It has two front sliding panels with an iron lock in its center, and two handles incised auspicious designs. The interior is shelved with a side locking drawer, accented with red lacquer. Three drawers run along the bottom of the chest with squared kakute style iron handles. Size: 22 3/4" high x 26 1/2" wide x 17 3/4" deep.

Antique Japanese rare two-section isho tansu (clothing chest) with a very interesting burl wood front, and lacquered sides. Each of its very large drawers has its own custom incised lockplate with imagery of cherry blossoms, bamboo, cranes, and other auspicious elements. Meiji period (1868-1912) Size: 51.25" height, 35.75" width, 16.75" depth

Beautiful two-section keyaki (zelkova) tansu with a gorgeous, glowing honey lacquered front and red lacquered top and sides. Its features include large, decorative iron lockplates incised with auspicious symbols, warabite handles with pierced backplates, a lockbox that is, interestingly, on the top section rather than the bottom, with three red-lacquered drawers inside. Very charming Japanese choba tansu (merchant's chest) made from very beautiful keyaki (zelkova) wood, horizontal slats on its sides, decorative iron hardware including diamond shaped handles with incised scrolling vines, hirute drawer handles, and a cloud-shaped lockplate for a small hinged door with three small drawers inside. Dates from the Meiji period (1868-1912). Original Condition Size: 30" height, 25.75" width, 13.25" depth

Antique Japanese rare fune bako (ship safe box) with interesting large, heavy iron warabite handles on its front and backside, front lockplate with flower shaped iron knob and hinged locking pin. Lid is completely removable and has short inscription inside. Meiji period (1868-1912) Original Beautiful Condition. Size: 6.25" height, 6.25" width, 17.25" length

Antique Japanese long gyosho bako (merchant's box) with iron warabite handles on its back and front hinged door with flower-shaped lockpin. The inside holds four long drawers with ring pulls.

Antique Japanese two-section kiri (paulownia) tansu with interesting kakute (squared) iron handles paired with round locks on each of its drawers. The two sections connect at the sides with pierced iron plating. Great condition, 100% Kiri wood. Late Meiji Period Size; 43" height, 38" width, 16.5" depth

Japanese small Tansu, Merchant chest, box, late Meiji period, 18" high, 24" wide, 14" deep, Cyprus and Cedar wood, two(2) medium size drawers next to three(3) smaller drawers above one(1) long drawer on the bottom. Hardware is old black iron, shows some wear and tear, some rust, small broken pieces.

Antique Japanese cha tansu (tea storage chest) with a lovely red/brown lacquered burl front with a gorgeous shine, and a warm honey-tone lacquered top and interior. It has many sliding door panels with plenty of storage space and shelving within, and five exterior drawers with interesting V-shaped handles.

Antique Japanese gyosho bako, or merchant's chest, in a tall and slender style with many drawers. It is made of kiri (paulownia) wood with a dark brown lacquer. The drawers bear an emblem faded from age, perhaps once used to label the contents inside. The very bottom drawer has an iron locking plate. Edo age (1615-1867). Exhibited in Palo Alto Cultural Center. Size: 36" height, 11" width, 14" depth

Antique Japanese tansu made from Keyaki (zelkova) wood with a deep red lacquer and a gorgeous woodgrain. It has a central vertical lockbar with ornate iron decorations over two large drawers, with squared handles. Key included.
