9000.00 A rare Japanese antique Kyoto Choba (merchant) Tansu in 2 sections made entirely of Hinoki (Cypress) wood. All original iron fittings and wiped lacquer finish including the Hikute style handles. Very unusual design of a kitchen chest (Mizuya Dansu) with storage drawers throughout the entire chest.
Two secret compartments. One features a secret hidden compartment accessed by fully removing a drawer and lifting off a false floor panel in the rear that allows the front panel to slide back...

$18,500.00 Japanese Rare Ishikawa Fune Tansu. Full face as well as inside drawer fronts are made up of burl keyaki hardwood. Frame is 100% keyaki hardwood with kiri wood inside drawer construction. All edges are clad in hand forged iron for added protection. These are said to be made so well, that if the ship were to sink, this chest would float just below the surface for retrieval.
This is a very rare and wonderful Japanese funa-dansu (sea chest for ship) example...

Spoils of Time
Sold An Edo period kake-suzuribako (scroll calligraphy box). Iron hardware all in place. Lock face and key but lock works mostly gutted. Original tray with liner retained. Wood surface naturally distressed from use but with expected, even patina with all the accompanying charm. A smoothly finished zelkova (keyaki) may be used for the primary wood, and sugi (cedar) for the aromatic secondary wood. Length, 14 1/4 inches. Depth, 9 1/2 inches. Height, 9 3/4 inches.
