Heavily used bag made of hemp whose wefts and warps are hand-plied and vegetable indigo dyed. The lining is hand-spun cotton and vegetable indigo dyed too. Straw scraps are found inside, so it might have been used by a farmer. It has tsutsugaki "Naganuma-mura", several of same name villages are existing, or existed. It is most likely it is Naganuma-mura in Iwate prefecture, now in Kitakami city. The family name is "Ito" but the first name in unreadable. It has holes, wear and mending...

Beautiful teahouse plaque dated late Edo Period, Ca. 1861. The inscription on the back by a monk Maezono Hokyo reads that the donor, Mr. Sugaeda asked the then Minister of the Right, Kasanoin Ieatsu (1789-1866) to write the kanji for the plaque of the teahouse he was donating to Kitano Shrine in Kyoto.This was 2 years before Kasanoin Ieatsu resigned. Sculpture carved out of the root section of a keyaki tree. A fox looking back. The roots that grew downwards form the legs, a small root growing horizontally forms the tail. The base section was originally the hollow trunk, filled in with an oval piece of keyaki (zelkova) wood. Wood polished.
