$700.00 Pair of small vases in cloisonné enamel on gilded copper. A beautiful identical landscape is represented on each vase, fish, rivers, birds and flowers on a background of a luminous blue sky. The wires are in silver, the base is in gilded copper. The gilding is now almost completely missing, except on the base. They are both in perfect condition, which for a pair is rare. Height 125mm. Japanese work from the end of the 19th century.

$1200.00 This is a fine Japanese vase from the Meiji era with impeccable workmanship. The silver wire work and thick enamel are flawless much like a Namikawa Yasayuki piece. It is also has the weight of a Namikawa piece, but could have been created by Honda or Shibata. The high quality of this vase is more apparent when in hand. It is adorned with 30 butterflies. The vase stands 6 inches tall and is in excellent condition.

On Hold This is another rare offering as we have never seen anything like this piece before. The piece has a beautiful mix of butterflies and flowers with a gradation of tones throughout the body. It is not signed and likely could have be made by one of these artists, Hattori, Sosuke, or Kumeno. With the lid on, the jar stands 20 1/2 inches. Condition is very good but there are some slight firing flaws in the enamel, damage to an area near one of the feet and a side blemish to the enamel...

The condition is very good with some expected wear. The bowl has 2 very minor, under the surface lines that can be seen in the last image.

Indeed it is a vase commemorating the bold construction of an aqueduct by a Japanese electricity company in the 1900s. The Chinese characters written below must relate the event, date it and also probably give the name of the creative artist or that of the enameling workshop...

When I recovered these vases they had been lamps and have since had the bottom drills hole restored. These vases are old but probably not Meiji era. Price on Request Here is a beautiful but unsigned Namikawa Sosuke vase. Those familiar with Sosuke's work, will know this vase was made by the master and is authentic. It's a stoutly made piece with silver rims. It stands 6 1/4 inches tall. This vase is in excellent condition. I have also provided an image of a later made, but very similar signed Sosuke vase.
