Height: 4.5 cm (2.8 in) Depth: 8.5 cm (3.3 in) Weight: 530 gms Fine Japanese cloisonne lidded box featuring a polychrome bird amongst florals and rocks; silver fittings; silk linings; attributed to Ando; excellent condition Japanese totai cloisonne on porcelain lidded tea jar, or cha-ire, decorated with colorful butterflies, flowers, and leafy vines set against a black background. Circa 1870s. 5 3/8" high. "Totai," was a short-lived experiment of applying cloisonne onto ceramic objects rather than onto a metal substrate. Production ceased in the 1870s because the enamels tended to crack and so many pieces did not survive the production process. Very good overall condition. From a Tucson, Arizona collection.

Sold This is a beautiful rare, wire and wireless vase from Ando. Gonda was probably the artist. It's a big vase standing 30 inches tall. Has beautiful enameling with delicate tonal changes that do not show up well in the images. The vase is in very good condition overall, but does have an excellent fill, an bit bigger than a thumbnail on the back side. See last image.

275.00 Japanese Showa period cloisonne enamel vase decorated with two prominent cattleya orchids set against a pale yellow wireless ground. The counter enamel at the interior mouth and base is pale yellow and in the interior of the vase is purplish brown. Chrome rims. No mark but likely produced by the Ando Cloisonne Company. 9 3/4" high x about 6" diameter at the shoulder. Very heavy for its size. Circa 1945-1960s. Very good overall condition.
