A set of five finger pinched sencha tea cups engraved with poems by Artist/Nun Otagaki Rengetsu enclosed in a rare original signed wooden box titled simply Chawan (Tea Bowls). A Japanese Export Jug, 1680 ~ 1700. Dutch Pewter Lid.

The jug has three panels of flowering peonies separated by bands of karakusa. A pewter lid has been fitted in The Netherlands, probably in the 19th century. Made specifically for export to Holland.

A jug of this form and decoration is illustrated in “Japanese Export Porcelain” by Oliver Impey. Item 32: 1680~1700.

Approximately 22.5 cm high...

An Unusually Large Blue and White Porcelain Sake Flask, 19th Century.

I cannot be certain of course but I have come across extra large tokkuri made for special celebrations. They were used I suspect to replenish smaller sake flasks at the gathering rather than individual cups. The bottle is of good quality and is very similar to the smaller Arita flasks. It has a slight step on the shoulder similar to some smaller examples...

Bold Tsubaki designs cover this six sided Mizusashi Water Container by Ito Motohiko exhibited at the 34th Shinsaku Togeiten Exhibition of New Works (2006) enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Nunome Tsubaki Mon Mizusashi. It is 16 x 15 x 21.5 cm (6-1/2 x 6 x 8-1/2 inches) and is in excellent condition, with the original ceramic lid.

A Japanese export porcelain bottle used for soy sauce in Holland. Marked ‘JAPANSCHZOYA’ in underglaze blue. Believed to be from the Hasami kiln, Nagasaki prefecture, towards the end of the 19th century. Also marked in underglaze blue are the initials C.P.D. for Comprador Deshima. Around the back of the bottle is found a stenciled seal of the C.P.D.

Comprador is Portuguese for "buyer"...
