An Unusually Large Killotaya. The lime container hinged and in two halves of round flattened form. The copper body with brass mounts. Sri Lanka 18/19thC. Length excluding chain; 6 1/2" (16.5 cm). Width; 4 3/4" (12.2 cm). Condition; excellent but with one of the teeth on the clasp missing. This is a very large good quality Killotaya. Used for holding powdered lime for mixing with sliced areca nut for betel chewing.

The barrel and all metal parts are inlaid with silver. These are not simply damascened designs, but true inlays that required deep carving into the steel. All the silver motifs are very thick and thus securely held in place, having withstood the test of time. The stock, inlaid with bronze wire, is made of fruitwood. All the inlays are of excellent quality; the designs are harmonious and precise. There are very few missing pieces...

Large copper samovar chiseled with flowers and Islamic characters. Ottoman, possibly Balkan. 19th century or earlier. One wooden handle replaced. Traces of tin soldering. In working condition with embers. 66 x 47 cm.

This small vase is probably the upper part of a candlestick. We do not have an example of a Merenide candlestick but those from Egypt are cast in 2 parts which fit together, for the purpose of more practical cleaning of the wax. Its square shape and its incised decoration in the style of "lion's teeth" leads us to think that it is a creation of the Maghreb or Andalusia rather than Syro-Egyptian. A staff final made of iron, the top looks like a pagoda having 8 metal rings and some pendants. These staffs were traditionally carried by Buddhist monks, particularly in East Asian and used as walking aid, weapon and rhythmic instrument. Two brass bronze models of a Nandi bull, the vahana of Lord Shiva, recumbent on a pedestal and protecting the lingha in front of it, one with holder for the naga canopy. And a miniature shrine made in three parts, showing the seated four-armed deity Durga. A later Mughal empire silver incense burner. The 800 silver marked bulbous vessel with repousse decoration of key fret border over scrolling vine pattern band over lotus pattern foot (marked 800 on the foot). The top with finial on lotus pattern cap, over an opewnork vine trellis band, over a chased scrolling vine pattern band, over a narrower key fret border. Lots of varied technique harmonizing to form the whole. 19th century. Must rotate the top a bit to find the optimal fit. Good condition...

Finely detailed spoon for Hindu religious rituals, decorated with a sitting Hindu deity on top, adorsed on a Naga snake which protects it, a long stem ending in the spoon itself, decorated with two birds on its top. India, early 19th century. Height: 13.7 cm. The spoon is nicely mounted on a custom stand. Some abrasion due to old age, otherwise very good condition.

An extremely rare cosmetic palette made of bronze, decorated in relief to represent Buddha sitting on a throne with bodhisattvas on his sides and two reclining humped bulls on his front. A rare round Indian pandan, a lidded betel container, made of zinc alloy, decorated with drop pattern between scroll bordures, finely inlaid in silver and brass. The interior of both halves, of the thinly worked box, with concentric rings. Please compare Zebrowski's "Gold, Silver & Bronze from Mughal India" 1997, no. 469. Condition: rim losses, lid with hole, some inlays lost. Dimension: diameter c. 14.8 cm, c. 11.7 cm high.
