The lime container hinged and in two halves of round flattened form.
The copper body with brass mounts.

Condition; excellent but with one of the teeth on the clasp missing.
This is a very large good quality Killotaya. Used for holding powdered lime for mixing with sliced areca nut for betel chewing.

We do not have an example of a Merenide candlestick but those from Egypt are cast in 2 parts which fit together, for the purpose of more practical cleaning of the wax. Its square shape and its incised decoration in the style of "lion's teeth" leads us to think that it is a creation of the Maghreb or Andalusia rather than Syro-Egyptian. A staff final made of iron, the top looks like a pagoda having 8 metal rings and some pendants. These staffs were traditionally carried by Buddhist monks, particularly in East Asian and used as walking aid, weapon and rhythmic instrument. Two brass bronze models of a Nandi bull, the vahana of Lord Shiva, recumbent on a pedestal and protecting the lingha in front of it, one with holder for the naga canopy. A later Mughal empire silver incense burner. The 800 silver marked bulbous vessel with repousse decoration of key fret border over scrolling vine pattern band over lotus pattern foot (marked 800 on the foot). The top with finial on lotus pattern cap, over an opewnork vine trellis band, over a chased scrolling vine pattern band, over a narrower key fret border. Lots of varied technique harmonizing to form the whole. 19th century. Must rotate the top a bit to find the optimal fit. Good condition...

$580.00 Antique bronze figure of a Hindu or Jain deity from the 16th-17th century, Southern India, Tamil Nadu, during the Vijayanagar Empire (1336-1646 A.D.).
A figure depicting a goddess is seated on a platform in Dhyanasana. She wears a sash that hangs across her hip and is adorned with a long necklace, bracelets on her wrists, and armbands... A rare round Indian pandan, a lidded betel container, made of zinc alloy, decorated with drop pattern between scroll bordures, finely inlaid in silver and brass. The interior of both halves, of the thinly worked box, with concentric rings. Please compare Zebrowski's "Gold, Silver & Bronze from Mughal India" 1997, no. 469. Condition: rim losses, lid with hole, some inlays lost. Dimension: diameter c. 14.8 cm, c. 11.7 cm high.
