Antique Japanese stoneware jar from Shigaraki kiln. Beautifully uneven form with high shoulders, tapered body and a narrow foot. Made using the local sandy clay from the bed of Lake Biwa, Shigaraki ware is identified by the embedded granules of feldspar. Mineral glaze is spattered over the surface and areas of dark ash adds depth and a prized natural beauty. Shigaraki is known as one of the 6 great pottery regions of Japan.

This is a Dark brown used in the house of the merchant of Kyoto in the latter half of the Meiji(1868-1911). Antique Japanese iron tomyodai Shinto votive candle holder in the form of a hoju (precious jewel). 12 circular rings for candles and one at the very top of the jewel's point. Attached to a stand with four feet and a rectangular tray to catch the wax from melting candles. From a Buddhist temple or Shinto shrine.

Antique Chinese carved jade snuff bottle. An even pale green jade carved with peaches on one side and four characters on the other. The jade is an even tone accented by two slightly diagonal striations running through. The lid is a mottled yellow glass and bronze with a bronze spoon.

Antique Chinese Peking glass snuff bottle. Overlay glass in red, yellow and dark blue on a white glass ground. A bird sits on a branch heavy with fruit. Lovely continual scene, beautifully carved with great detail and depth. Four small cartouches in red glass overlay. The lid is made of quartz and has a bone spoon.

Antique Chinese Peking glass snuff bottle. Made of black glass overlaid on a pink glass ground. It is carved with a man on a horse on one side and the other with a scholar's attendant walking with a large blossoming branch slung over his shoulder. Large flowering branches sprout from the ground on either side. The lid is made of rose quartz and the spoon is bone.

The falcon is represented resting on a branch. His expression is attentive and we can guess that he is hunting. The artist knew how to infuse him with all the ruthless savagery in his gaze. Chinese Blue and White Porcelain Covered Paste Ink Box, 2 1/4" high with cover, 3 5/8" diameter top rim, with darker blue Double Happiness design among scrolling Vines and Sweet Peas, typical Chinese Straits Culture design. There are some firing dots but no damages.

An ancient Chinese Tang Dynasty (618-907) tea bowl, dating to around 850-900 AD and excavated in the Luoyang area.

This charming bowl is well balanced and has traces of its excavation inside (please see last photo). The piece is coloured with an attractive sancai glaze of green and orange which stands out vibrantly against the ivory cream slip.

Chinese Blue and White Porcelain Double Happiness Brush Washer, Ca. 1900-1920, 3 3/4" high, 4" wide-widest middle part, 2 1/8" diameter-top rim, with underglaze Pea Flowers within scrolling vines and leaves done in very fine brush strokes, two(2) dark blue Double Happiness Characters on both sides. Stained small frit about 1/4" wide on the unglazed bottom rim, and Wax Seal for the Export purpose on the bottom, one(1) tiny frit on the side of the top rim.

An antique Japanese Cha Tansu made of Momiji (Maple) and Katsura woods. 4 sliding doors along the top hid a storage area where tea service acessories were kept. 2 sliding etched glass doors covered a display area where Japanese seasonal and holiday objects were showcased while the etching hid a small drawer and a storage space that the previous owner wanted to have left hidden. 2 more sliding doors, a hinged door and 2 side by side drawers round out this tansu.

An antique Japanese Chobako (merchant safe-keep box) made entirely of Kiri (Paulownia) wood with original hand forged iron hardware. Acquired a beautiful 200+ year old age patina. Hinged door secures 3 drawers behind which lies a secret box located behind the side by side drawers above.

The beautiful Thai Bronze Buddha statue completely captures his upper body. The Buddha's face is delicate and simply beautiful! His lips are pursed together and his eyes are downcast in deep meditation. It dates back to the late Ayutthaya Kingdom in the 18th century. A lovely piece with excellent detail and patina.

The wooden pedestal was renewed by our family a couple of years ago.

The size of the statue with its pedestal is large: it is 64 cm (25,19'') high!
