SOLD An antique Japanese Niigata 2 section Kasane Tansu (stacking chest on chest) with hand made iron fittings. The lock plates feature the Sho Chiku Bai motif (Pine, Bamboo, Plum Blossom known as the 3 felicitous friends of winter) with the longevity symbols of the turtles and crane. Each drawer has Kakute handle pulls and the hinged door hides 3 small drawers.
The front of the chest is made of natural Kirinoki while the tansu body was designed using a dark red wiped lacquer technique. Cons... A large impressive figure of a Phoenix standing on a treetrunk growing with Lingzhi fungus. Provenance : Old German collection. There is a old German hand-written sticker to the base of the piece which reads : " Fo Hang " Anfang( begin ) 18. Jht.( century ). But the piece is most probably from the 19th. century. H : 41,2 cm. Condition : Perfect.

Fresh out of the oven, here is a delicious treat to start the new year right, a crusty dancing form by Murakoshi Takuma enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Shigaraki Mimitsuki Hana-ire. Not only does the vase itself feel alive with movement, but the encrustations of ash and glossy molten ash glaze seem to be still in formation, as if it is still settling in the kiln. The piece is definitely quite old but the origin is not clearly Japanese, Chinese or Southeast Asian. l welcome any opinions.
