Rare wide brimmed Tibetan hat, meant to be worn by reincarnated lamas of a high-rank, called Tulku, who have the power to choose their manner of rebirth. It is covered in a copper/gold lacquer over incised designs with coiled dragons, flowers, and various Buddhist symbols. The inner part has pierced characters and a raised design, and is topped with a bronze and quartz finial with auspicious designs. Inside of hat has an illegible signature. 17th century Size: 14.75" wide, 6" tall

Absolutely rare and amazing pottery shisa ( foo dog, foo lion ) from the mid. Meiji Period, signed by the artist and covered with wonderful white Hagi glaze.

Do you find more impressive ones on the antique art market?

The figure shows a lot of artistic details (take a look on the teeth and the tongue). Hagi Ware Foo dogs are very rare.

No repairs, only a tiny piece of the tail is chipped off and some peaks of the teeth are missing, hard to notice! and it does not...

A fine Iga-yaki Tsutsu Chawan by Tsujimura Kai enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 11 cm (4-1/2 inches) diameter, 9 cm (3-1/2 inches) tall and in excellent condition.
Kai was born in Nara, son of Tsujimura Shiro, in 1976, making him one of the younger artists we have offered. Although of course growing up surrounded in pottery, he began apprenticing in earnest under his father in 1995, establishing his own studio in 2000.

A fine 18th Century Kano school painting depicted peony flowers. Behind the scene is a stream. It is painted with pigments of green (rokusho), which has been richly used. The combination of red and white flower symbolizes good fortune. This subject was painted in life size and a very good example of Kano school peony painting.

It is in good condition with patina. A highly decorative piece.

Only one of a kind! Distorted half cylinder shaped (near kutsugata) tea bowl made of light, coarse unrefined Mino clay. It dates from the Momoyama Period.

The expertly thrown body is covered with the typical feldspatic shino glaze inside and outside, with the exception of the bottom' the roughly cut foot ring. A very minor iron oxide content of the clay has changed the white shino glaze to light pink (beni). This is absolutely rare. (Beni-shino is a variation of E-Shino and should not...

Chinese Qing dynasty ovoid form porcelain fish bowl decorated around the circumference in underglaze blue on a white ground with lotus seedpods and scrolling tendrils topped by a border of alternating pendant spear points and ruyi heads. The pot tapers to an unglazed, flat, slightly recessed base. The interior, rolled rim, and raised rib under the rim are all glazed white. Bronze Ming Dynasty censer in the shape of a Buddha's hand citron, a citrus planet originating from China, named so for its resemblance to hand gestures known as mudra, which Buddha is commonly depicted making. The censer's lid has the shape of leaves and the plant sits on its own vines.
