He has a gorgeous face, beautifully rendered. He is wearing sumptuous silk brocades, stretched on a carved wood body (kimekomi). He holds a bow and arrows. Porcelain Chinese figurine of Tsao Kuo Chiu, who is a patron saint of theatrical profession. Richly decorated in polychrome enamels, Tsao Kuo Chiu is one of the 8 Immortals. We have never seen a theatrical monkey at the base, but he is a nice addition to this very unique 19th century Chinese figurine. Marked CHINA on the bottom, we are dating him Circa 1900. In excellent condition, he measures 7.5 inches tall.

This is a tea bowl of Japanese OHI pottery ware, which was made about 50 years ago by famous Chozaemon Ohi (1901-1986).

It has a fantastic black glaze. The work and the box has the sign of the 9th. Chozaemon Ohi. His name is inherited from the Edo era.
