An antique Japanese 2 section Todana Tansu (shelf and drawer chest) made of Keyaki (Zelkova) and Hinoki (Cypress) woods. All original bronze hardware with hand made glass and age old acquired patina. Side slats provide stability and strength. Top section has 2 sets of sliding doors with a removable shelf behind the lower pair. The bottom section has 1 set of sliding doors with 5 drawers of varying sizes.

Two sets of sliding doors behind which spacious storage was used to keep books. Two side by side drawers at the bottom for additional storage. Japanese antique small small tansu with locking bar (bo). The bar has wrought iron fittings with a working locking mechanism. The bar functioned to keep the drawers closed during transportation. The wood is finished with a lacquered surface. Edo period, circa 1860. It measures 26.75" high, 25" wide, 14.5" deep .
