A fine and rare MING DYNASTY JARLET with craquelé light brown glaze and splashes of blue and white glaze here and there. The base is also glazed except for the resting ring on the base. Found in the MUSI RIVER, close to Palembang City, which was the Capital of the SRIVIJAYA KNGDOM and which had a vast trade network with China and Siam. The twelve sided dish with brown-dressed rim is decorated in enamels that appear to be an attempt to reproduce doucai wares. The decoration features a bee, a monkey, a bird and a deer in a landscape.This forms a rebus on the auspicious line ‘feng hou jue li’, “enfeoffment and emolument”.

The Chinese porcelain dish has a border of two repeating elements, a garlanded ruyi and three interlinked rings. The centre of the dish depicts a Chinese landscape with two scholars approaching a solitary angler.
