Okutani Shuseki (1871-1936) was born in Osaka and lived in Kyoto for most of his life. His artistic lineage is among the very best. He, along with Yamamoto Shunkyo and others, studied under Mori Kansai, who was the pupil and adopted son-in-law of Mori Tetsuzan, who was one of Maruyama Okyo's best pupils. Vase in the shape of a fish. Iron inlaid with gold and silver. Turquoise stone detail and red eye, either glass or ruby. On the reverse, a tie was soldered to the pewter later to be able to suspend it and thus make it a wall vase. But it seems to me that the object was simply made to be placed on a table. The silver inlays are very numerous, but oxidized in black, they have become almost invisible, however they are clearly distinguishable on the enlargements. It would be easy to lighten them by ...

Large blue and white teacup of ogee shape and saucer bowl, in the Fitzhugh pattern. Chinese export porcelain from the early years of the 19th century, c 1810-20. Diameter of saucer "6 ¼ / 16 cm and of cup "4 ½ / 11 cm. Condition: the cup with two short hairlines and a nick to the mouth rim.

A group of five illustrated manuscript leaves on thickened paper illustrating various "avatars" of Vishnu and other, related figures. Each leaf measures, approximately, 9" X 4". A bit rough around the edges, as shown in the photos. Still, a rare grouping.
