DESCRIPTION: An attractive Asian fishing creel, fashioned from woven split bamboo with wood base and neck, and an attached tightly woven string for hanging. A creel is used for carrying fish or blocks of peat moss which function as an evaporative cooler when dipped into a creek, keeping the catch chilled. A beautiful Japanese black lacquer over wood with applied mother of pearl charger featuring 2 sparrow-like birds surrounded by cherry blossoms. The branches have gold highlights and the cherry blossom buds have red lacquer accents. One small mop bud is missing, otherwise in very good condition. Measures 17 inches in diameter.

Japanese Blue and White Soba Noodle Cup, Showa period, late 1800 to early 1900's, 2 3/4" high, 3" diameter-top rim, tapered top and transfered blue design of flying Phoenix Bird among scrolling vines and leaves, unglazed bottom. The condition is good, some sand spots while firing in the kiln.

his is a wonderful Japanese Cloisonne lidded bowl, done in the Plique A Jour style. Lidded bowls like this are very difficult to come across. The piece is fairly large in size measuring 4 7/8" across and is 3 1/2" tall. An array of colorful and bright flowers and leaves decorate this exquisite bowl both top and bottom. A carved wooden box with removable lid revealing a container for matches and tobacco slotted in the side to carry a Kiseru pipe. Exquisitely crafted by a man who both understood design and wood grains, it is likely from the arts and crafts era. It is 5-1/2 x 3-1/2 x 5 inches (14 x 9 x 13 cm) and is in overall fine condition, with wear to the base attesting to age.

Very RARE early 1930’s Japanese dark brown textured silk jacket with a hand painted lining commemorating the flight of the Clasina Madge flown by American pilot, Cecil Allen, in a race from Japan to the United States. Fabulous Japanese black satin silk haori with a woven lining featuring 3 large rabbits. The outside has 2 family crests on the front and 3 across the back. Please note that the grey spotted rabbit has red pupils. This is a high quality men's haori and is in excellent condition. The jacket measures 54 inches across the shoulders by 44” long.
