An unusual Japanese choba tansu (merchant's chest) constructed of Kiri (paulownia) wood with natural finish. This unusual piece contains a top compartment behind sliding panels as well as another below it, the lower compartment containing two shelves and a set of 3 small drawers with decorative locking plates, opened by kan (ring) pulls. The middle inner drawer contains a secret hidden compartment. All in original condition.

A Japanese single section Sendai tansu, constructed of Keyaki (elm) front panels and Sugi (cedar) sides, with original light finish and black lacquered frame. The drawers of this chest have large, decorative, hand-forged iron lock plates with floral motifs and mokko (melon) handles. The side of the chest has a safe door with 3 small Keyaki burl front drawers inside.

The chest's four front drawers feature large, round Kiri wood mon (family crest) motif lock plates , while the Warabite style drawer pulls have small pierced plates below them in the style of a crane mon. Japanese zenibako (money safe box) made with Keyaki (zelkova) burl wood in original red lacquer finish. The zenibako is fitted with brass hardware including side handles in a mokko (melon) motif. The hinged lid has a large front lock plate with matching key, and a calligraphy inscription on the underside. The interior of the zenibako holds two open compartments.

This Japanese okimono quality bronze turtle has a champleve decorated shell that opens to reveal a pipe stand. The turtle measures about 6 1/2" long x 3" wide x 2" tall and dates to the turn of the Century. The turtle has the makers' impressed seal underneath. The condition is very good with just a chip to the end of the tail and the hinge pin is missing. The asking price includes shipping within the USA.

A large Chinese brush pot hand carved from solid Zitan hardwood. The brush pot has a cylindrical natural form with interesting root texturized edges. An unusual scholars brush pot holder. The zitan shows "gold threading" running with that of the dark grain.

A framed Christian religious painting of Mary with a winged angel bearing the signature and seal mark of Li Tian Duo. This item was painted in China during the either the late Qing or early Republic period. The early 20th Century frame is age worn but the painting is in excellent condition with no stains or damages. A Japanese heavy bronze incense burner with Murashido marbled areas decorating the sides, bottom, and lid. The burner is six sided, has a lid pierced with three bats (good fortune), and a top knob in the shape of a mushroom (long life). There is a makers mark stamped on the bottom (Esteemed Hall?). The burner measures 4 1/2" tall x 3 1/2" in diameter. We cannot find any comparable bronze burners, but we believe it dates to the turn of the Century. The condition is excellent with minor wear....

A Korean brass bowl on a high foot and a brass box of the type that was used to decorate a family altar when worshiping their ancestors. The bowl was used to hold burning incense, and the incense was stored in the box. The bowl measures about 6" high x 6" in diameter and the box measures about 2" high x 3" in diameter, and both date to the early 20th Century.
