Very rare, large lidded rattan basket from the Nung Rawang ethnic group of Northern Burma, Kachin State. The Rawang are a subgroup of the Kachin people and live in some of the last great wilderness forests left in Burma. Also it is interesting to note that the men do the weaving and with advent of plastic bags this pretty much an extinct craft. This is suoh of samurai's hitatare full dress in Edo-meiji period (upper part). The material is hemp of the handspun & natural indigo dye.Textile seems to be hand spun and woven, and has soft touch. Since this was used from the Edo to the Meiji period, there are many fading and small holes as shown in the image.This is the family crest of kikusui. An incredible monumental triangular architectural pediment, chua from Thailand. Carved of wood in high relief, the design is of scrolling peony vines entwining monkey figures. The anthropomorphized monkeys, dressed in clothing and with human hands, are suggestive of the Hindu deity, Hanuman.
