A mounted hand-woven Malaysian Songket head cloth from the Palembang region of South Sumatra. Weft ikat, supplementary weft weave, silk and gold thread with natural dye. The red ground of the cloth with resist dye floral medallions and gold thread rosettes, bordered with geometric zig zag patterns These Songkets were traditionally hung from a wedding bed to announce the wealth of the family, and were also worn during religious ceremonies. The weaver must be highly skilled to create the Songket...

Antique framed Balinese kampuh songket, a men's ceremonial wrapper cloth, handmade with supplementary weft silk, cotton, gold and silver thread. The red ground cloth with gold and silver thread motifs of pairs of robed standing figures wielding staffs with butterflies, and fierce heads above with gaping mouths, full of sharp teeth and long tongues. The edges are bordered in zig zag patterns, geometric scrolls, and woven script in gold and silver thread.
