Antique Japanese 2-section kiri isho tansu (clothing chest), made with very light natural color kiri (paulownia) wood with iron hardware. 4 large exterior drawers with a safe box in the lower right hand side. The interior of the safe box has two small drawers and the door has a key. Iron hardware includes warabite shaped drawer pulls and square form lock plates.

Meiji Period (1868-1912)

Dimensions: 40" high x 36" wide x 16 1/2" deep.

This is a fine cloisonne enamel vase from the Meiji Period. Though more simplistic than many of his pieces, We believe this was vase made by Hayashi. I There are plenty of image and viewer can make up their own mind. The birds are well done and each is designed with gold wires. The difficult scroll under the top rim is also similar to Hayashi's work. The vase stands 6 inches tall and condition is excellent.

Chinese qingbai porcelain bowl, egg shell thin body with pale celadon crackle glaze. The well of the bowl incised with two swimming fish over waves, the edges slightly lobed, the rim left in buff. The exterior body is ribbed down to the short foot, and the base of the foot slightly recessed and left in buff.

The Hannya (般若) mask in Noh theater represents a jealous female demon. She possesses two sharp bull-like horns, metallic gold eyes, and a leering mouth with jagged teeth. The mask is all hand-carved with open eyes, nostrils, and mouth so the Noh performer can see, breathe, and speak. There are also two pierced holes at the temples to be secured against the head with cord. It is a privilege to introduce this incredible sculpture by the young female ceramicist Furui Akiko enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Tsubomi (bud) dating from 2017. It is made up of hundreds of rolled sheafs of shaved clay covered in a white slip and fused together. The amount of work which goes into each sculpture is obvious, making her work great value.
