Chinese Tang Dynasty Painted Pottery Horse (AD 618 - 906)

This attractive pottery model of a horse was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). It is made from a buff-coloured pottery that has been "cold painted" in white, reddish-brown and black pigments. This horse is well-modelled and stands upright and alert.

Height 22.5 cm (8.75 inches). A nice example in good condition with any possible repair having been performed to a professional standard.

A japanese antique natural indigo dyed cotton tsutsugaki furoshiki from the Edo period.(1800-1867) This family crest is rare. It's thick, and this cotton is hand-spun. This one has some stains on the white part. There is a small hole here, but there is no big damage. Since this was used to wrap things, there is a part where the cloth is slightly stretched. It is a very beautiful indigo-dyed Asamai Shibori fabric. No stains or damage. very good. There is a pressing cloth on the back, but there is no problem. Kogo, container for storing incense during the tea ceremony, in the shape of the bud of a lotus flower.
The bottom half decorated on the outside with classic lotus sepals, as used to image a Buddhist lotus dais, in relief. The top half also decorated in low relief in a much more stylized manner. The closed lotus bud, crowned by a 16-petal chrysanthemum and topped by a knob, which is probably a stylized rendering of the chrysanthemum heart.

Shino pottery is produced in today's Gifu prefecture since 16th century and it is distinguished by thick white glazes, red marks and the surface of small holes.
