An Indonesian Mask carved in the form of a monkey. The mask is carved into two separate section, one is the top area of the head and the bottom is the jaw area. The mask is attached with a head covering made from strips of leather. The islands of Java and Bali are the two key regions that have the art of mask dancing often depicting religious stories. Beautiful antique Burmese Sutra, printed on leaves depicting different stories of the Buddha with his teachings. With fine printed writings on the back side and around the edges. Incised and stained with ink. Held together with lacquered and gilted wood with a raised scrolling leaves designs, lions and elephants. Age: Late 19th Century / early 20th century. A late 19th - early 20th century "Yun" lacquered betel box with incised design of two horses and riders, elephant and dancers. The box is divided into three pieces. A beautiful Thai painting portraying a Jataka tale. A royal chariot of with the future Buddha before he renounced his royal position. At the bottom of the painting four devotees are holding lotus buds perhaps indicative of another time frame. Done with mineral pigments and the most exquisite coloration. This thai painting was part of a Buddhist prayer book. On the backside a message in is beautifully written. Age: 18th-19th century. Size: 11.625"H x 8.625"L

From our Southeast Asia Collection, a very good 18th century gilded bronze Thai buddha, seated in bhumisparsa mudra, gilded lacquer over bronze with interesting glass inserts to the base, and all the indicia of legitimate age and genuineness.

Size and Condition: 13 inches tall, 8 1/2 inches wide. There is obvious age-related wear to the gilding and some lacquer has flaked off in a few random places, but in small amounts...

Serene Bronze Buddha subduing Mara, SHAN STATE Burma, 18/19th Century, very nice smooth patina, seated on a high-stepped throne, which tapers off towards the top and is a noteworthy characteristic of Shan artists, very good condition, no restorations, Size: H. 15.5 cm x W. 7.5 cm x D, 5 cm.

From our Southeast Asia Collection, a large and well-carved image of the Burmese monk Mogallana, 19th century. The carving is rendered in gilding and black lacquer over carved hardwood, with shell inserts for the eyes, typical for the better quality Mandalay era pieces. Overall, the piece is very nicely executed with good expressiveness and presence, making it very suitable for part of a shrine ensemble, or simply for display as a centerpiece on its own...

A very fine example of Burmese lacquer ware, dating from the Mandalay period, ca. late 19th/early 20th century. Apart from sone minor chips to the lacquer and normal age wear, this offering bowl is in excellent condition. H. 58 cm. Diameter 31 cm.
