This small wood box contains a folding top panel on which is mounted a mirror, and a drawer for holding personal items. The box is constructed using pawlonia (kiri) wood on all sides with hardwood and pawlonia panels on the top. The box measures about 10" long x 7 3/4" wide x 5 1/4" high, and dates to the 19th Century. The condition is good. There is a small repair to one corner of the drawer. The nails holding the mirror panel hinges have been replaced with longer nails...

Antique Korean Black Inkstone Box and Antique Inkstone. The poem on the lid is a beautiful work of calligraphy. It can be read in two directions as "Celebrated mountain object" and "Celebrated mountain extraordinary wisdom", meaning that this object will be used in the pursuit of wisdom. The inkstone has a banana leaf motif, referencing the 8th Century Chinese scholar and celebrated calligrapher, Huaisu who wrote on banana leaves when he ran out of paper. Antique Korean traditional bandaji (blanket storage chest) that is also a fold out secretary desk with 5 small drawers and organizational compartments, exterior has beautiful cut out hardware with intricate filigree and birds, large handles and lock, circa 1900. Antique Korean three section chest with beautiful inlay on black lacquer. The top section has three small drawers along the top, decorated with inlay in a geometric pattern. The cabinet doors are decorated inside with scenes of birds on branches. The other panels are decorated with landscapes, scenes of birds, and other animals. Choson period, circa 1900.
