Korean 19th Century / Choson Blue & White Porcelain Jar in Box

This porcelain jar of globular form was made during the 19th century toward the latter part of the Choson (Joseon) Dynasty. The underglaze blue decoration comprises floral patterns and two bands surrounding the neck. It is quite "heavily-potted" and there are couple of firing bubbles, no doubt due to the thickness of the clay. There is kiln grit embedded within the glaze to the base.

Korean Glazed Porcelain Bowl - Joseon Dynasty

This heavily-potted bowl was made during the latter part of the Joseon (Choson) Dynasty (1392 - 1910), probably the 18th or 19th century. It is delightfully "coarse" in its potting and coated in a cream/honey coloured glaze, the thickness of which varies. Around the centre inner surface is a ring of twelve kiln spacer scars from where another vessel was fired inside this bowl, also minor signs of wear from use...

These offering stands were used in Korea on a family altar to elevate offering to worship ones ancestors. These stands were owned by poor people and farmers, and they are good examples of Korean folk art. The largest stand is about 6" in diameter, followed by one at 5 1/2" and the other at 4 3/4". All of them show spur marks and grit where they were stacked for firing in a large kiln. They are all in good condition with no damage. The asking price includes shipping within the USA.

Antique Korean pair of small Koryŏ porcelain cups. Elegant form with small feet and sharply flared sides. Fine celadon glaze in pale blue with high transparency. The interiors are a paler translucent glaze. Each cup has a simple blue underglaze dot in the underside of the foot.

Blue-glazed porcelain carp fish, a Korean scholar’s water dropper. The carp was regarded as a symbol of endurance and never-ceasing ambition - a good example for a calligrapher. The two small holes let out the drops of water needed to make fluent ink out of the hard and dry inkstone surface. Joseon dynasty, probably late 19th century. Width "3/ 7.5 cm, height "1/ 2.7 cm. Condition: fine.

Korean Koryo Dynasty Celadon-Glazed Covered Box, Circa 13th Century

It is 1.3 inches (3.4 cm) tall by 3.5 inches (9 cm) wide. The wood carved box is is 3.5 inches (9 cm) tall by 4.4 inches (11.2 cm) long and 4.4 inches (11.2 cm) wide. It is 0.5 Lb.

It has skip glazes, dark spots, repairs to the inner rim, and surface wears and scratches (as seen in the photos).

A Fine Korean White Slip Inlaid with Chrysanthemums Oil Bottle-13th C.: Korea, Koryo dynasty, 13th century. The flattened globular sharply tapering to a raised ring foot, and sloping to a narrow neck with everted cup-shaped mouth decorated in inlaid with white slip with chrysanthemum floral heads between a double circular ring, applied with a grey celadon glaze overall. A Very Fine Korean Buncheong White Slip Inlaid Bowl-15th C, : Korea, Joseon dynasty, 15th century. The deep bowl on short raised ring foot with everted rim, decorated in inlaid white slip with a central medallion of floral heads and dots surrounded by a narrow band of stylized double rings and wide band of “rope curtain” design, the exterior decorated en suite beneath a pale celadon glaze. It’ in good condition but some chips to foot-rim, it measures 19 cm d. x 8 cm h.
