A quite large abacus shaped jar rising from the ring foot to the extended sides and ending
above the slanted shoulder in a short, decorated with abstract floral spray in underglaze iron-brown on opposite sides of the vessel, the body covered with a greyish white glaze overall,
burnt slightly brown and orange in the firing.
It is in very fine condition without any repair ...

Onggi are the most 'Korean' of Korean pots. All words related to onggi are of pure Korean origin, not based on Chinese characters. They are a beautiful form of Korean folk art.
Rare Antique Onggi Medicinal Pot and Cover from Gyeonggi Province, with a beautiful deep, dark brown color. This pot is formed from two halves, a bottom half and a top half, that are put together to form this striking and unusual shape, with a ridged seam around the circumference of the pot. The clay is rich in iron and the glaze is made from clay mixed with wood ash and a little raw lead. The result is a rich dark chocolate brown. This is a Wan shaped tea bowl made of coarse, unrefined clay with a high content of iron oxide. The clay shows impurities and stones - some of them have exploded ('ishihaze'). Over the dark clay a thin, transparent ash glaze has been applied, inside is an aesthetic brush stroke (hake me) in white engobe. The bowl has a beautiful shape and is well balanced... Sold A Korean blue and white porcelain water dropper. Cube form with bracket feet on the four corners, a spout along the top edge on one side, and a whole (for displacement) near center top. Painterly floral decoration within line border on the sides. Geometric flower head decoration on the top. Stable cracks, a couple surface chips, and loss to the spout. All dimensions about 2 1/4 inches (5.715 cm) except for the height which is about 2 1/8 inches (5.39 cm). Joseon dynasty.
